RIYADH — The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SPDRY) has forged a partnership agreement with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) to support a program that aims to build the capacity of four Arab least developed countries — Mauritania, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen — to assess challenges in absorbing aid from donor countries and transitioning from relief and aid to sustainable development.
The agreement was signed by SPDRY General Supervisor Ambassador Mohammad Bin Saeed Al Jaber and undersecretary-general of ESCWA Dr. Rola Dashti on Monday.
The partnership includes financing and enriching the forthcoming UN report on least developed countries with comprehensive humanitarian and development analyses and plans for developing a comprehensive strategy for the least developed countries for the next ten years and to assist member states and donor organizations to contribute to achieving UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
This report will provide mechanisms for building resilience and addressing the chronic, multi-faceted issues facing the selected countries, strengthening regional solidarity and helping them embark on the path of sustainable development. A path that will be followed based on best practices in development support to Yemen, through joint action that contributes to achieving stability and accelerating economic recovery.
