RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Friday welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, describing it as a “new phase of understanding, cooperation, and the consolidation of security and stability in the Caucasus region.”
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry praised the role of the United States in facilitating the accord and reaffirmed the Kingdom’s support for all efforts aimed at ending conflicts and enhancing opportunities for peace and development in troubled regions worldwide.
“The Kingdom looks forward to this agreement marking the start of a new era that serves the interests of the peoples of both countries and the region as a whole,” the ministry said.
The joint announcement from Baku and Yerevan confirmed the finalization of the peace and normalization of relations draft agreement, capping months of negotiations mediated by the US and Europe, including undisclosed meetings in Washington.
