RIO DE JENEIRO — On behalf of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan is leading Saudi Arabia's delegation in the 17th BRICS Summit 2025, which began in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday. Saudi Arabia is participating in the summit as an invited country to join the BRICS group.

Prince Faisal is attending the second day of the summit on Monday. The summit is being attended by partner countries and guest countries invited by the presidency, as well as international organizations. The discussions focus on global development efforts, including climate issues and the fight against pandemics and diseases.

As the Chair of BRICS, Brazil is focusing on the theme, ‘Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance’. Initially comprised of Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, China, and South Africa, the recently expanded alliance now also includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The BRICS countries convene for a BRICS Leaders’ Summit annually. Discussions also focus on spheres of political and socioeconomic coordination, in which member countries have identified business opportunities, economic complementarities, and areas of cooperation.
