RIYADH — Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty discussed the efforts to resume ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the necessary steps to implement the Arab-Islamic Plan for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, Minister Abdelatty discussed, in a phone call with Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the ongoing efforts to resume ceasefire in Gaza and the access of humanitarian aid to the besieged Strip, in light of the "deteriorating humanitarian conditions."

During the phone call on Wednesday evening, the ministers discussed the next steps to implement the Arab-Islamic Plan for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza. According to the statement, the two ministers also discussed the importance of compliance on the part of Israel and Iran with the ceasefire reached between them.

Cairo hosted an emergency Arab summit in early March, which adopted a comprehensive Arab plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which subsequently received Islamic support.

As part of the efforts to reach a truce in Gaza, Minister Abdelatti also held phone talks with UN Secretary António Guterres, during which they discussed the latest developments in the region. On his part, Abdelatti reiterated Egypt's firm position calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages and prisoners. He also reviewed Egypt's intensive contacts with all parties to quickly reach a ceasefire.

In another call on Thursday, the Egyptian foreign minister stressed to his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot, the need to halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the West Bank, and to allow the entry of humanitarian and relief aid into the besieged Strip.

Abdelatty indicated that Egypt looks forward to hosting the international conference for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza following a ceasefire. He called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the West Bank.
