Israeli airstrikes on Gaza kill 10, mostly women and children

May 11, 2025

GAZA — Israeli airstrikes overnight and into Sunday killed 10 people in the Gaza Strip, including multiple children, according to local health officials.

The strikes, which hit southern Gaza’s Khan Younis area, targeted tents and residential zones.

Among the dead were two families, each consisting of two children and their parents, according to Nasser Hospital, which received all of the bodies.

The hospital also reported the deaths of a child and a man who had been riding a bicycle. Images from the hospital showed relatives carrying the bodies of young victims, including two-year-old Zeina Al-Agha.

The Israeli military did not comment on the latest strikes but has maintained that its operations target militants and infrastructure belonging to Hamas, which it accuses of operating within civilian areas.

Israel resumed its offensive in March after a ceasefire was broken, aiming to secure the release of remaining hostages taken during the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel in October 2023.

Israel has also enforced a complete blockade on Gaza for more than 10 weeks, halting imports of food, medical supplies, and emergency shelter.

The government says the closure is intended to pressure Hamas to release hostages. Aid organizations warn that the blockade is pushing Gaza’s population into widespread hunger.

The conflict, now in its 19th month, began after Hamas-led militants attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and taking 251 hostages. An estimated 59 hostages remain in Gaza, with about a third believed to be alive.

Since the war began, more than 52,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks, the majority of them women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. — Agencies
