RIO DE JANEIRO — Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng. Waleed Al-Khereiji reiterated Saudi Arabia's commitment to being a reliable and neutral partner in its efforts and endeavors aimed at de-escalating tensions at regional and international levels. “The Kingdom will continue to work closely with the international community to promote the principles of multilateralism and advance a more secure and prosperous world,” he said while delivering a speech, on behalf of Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, at the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
During the session, titled "The role of the Global South in promoting multilateralism," Al-Khereiji said that Saudi Arabia’s participation in the meeting comes as a country invited to join the BRICS group. He appreciated the invitation extended to the Kingdom in the 2023 Johannesburg Summit Declaration, expressing the Kingdom's aspiration to cooperate with multilateral action platforms towards a future full of prosperity and opportunity, in the countries of the South and the world at large.
Al-Khereiji expressed Saudi Arabia’s aspiration to enhance the work of the BRICS group and the international community as a whole by playing an active role in resolving escalating crises and easing tensions. He emphasized that the Kingdom continues to lead efforts through the Ministerial Committee, created by the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit, and the International Coalition to Implement the Two-State Solution, to mobilize international support for ending violence, protecting civilians, ensuring humanitarian access to affected Palestinian areas, and advancing the two-state solution as the only way to achieve lasting peace and security for all.
The session was attended by Saudi Ambassador to Brazil Dr. Faisal Ghulam, and Director General of International Organizations Shaher Al-Khonaini.
