JEDDAH — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman sent cables of condolences on the passing of Head of Vatican City State Pope Francis.

Pope Francis died on Monday at the age of 88, the Vatican announced. Francis suffered a severe health crisis earlier this year and was hospitalized for five weeks with double pneumonia. But the pope recovered from the worst illness and was discharged last month and was convalescing at his residence at Casa Santa Marta at the Vatican.
