ALAHSA — Al Fateh delivered a major upset in the Roshn Saudi League title race on Thursday, defeating league leaders Al Ittihad 2-0 in Matchweek 28 to inject fresh hope into Al Hilal’s championship bid.
The result leaves Al Ittihad on 65 points, just four ahead of second-placed Hilal, with six rounds remaining in the season.
For Al Fateh, the victory was just as significant. The win moves them up to 29 points and into 13th place, giving the Eastern Province club a critical boost in their battle to avoid relegation to the First Division.
Ameen Al Sebaie opened the scoring in the 10th minute, capitalizing on a shaky defensive moment from the visitors. Matías Vargas doubled the advantage midway through the second half with a composed finish in the 69th minute, sealing Fateh’s most important win of the season.
Al Ittihad struggled to find their rhythm and were left frustrated throughout, despite several efforts from striker Karim Benzema, who was denied repeatedly by Fateh’s organized backline and goalkeeper.
