February 08, 2025

RAMALLAH — A bus carrying Palestinian prisoners released from Israeli detention arrived in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Saturday as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. According to an Anadolu Agency reporter, 42 prisoners were aboard a Red Cross bus and were met by a cheering crowd that had gathered since early morning to welcome the freed detainees. The prisoners were released from Ofer military prison near Ramallah as part of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal, which took effect on Jan. 19. Israel is set to release a total of 183 Palestinian prisoners on Saturday in exchange for three Israeli captives freed by Hamas earlier in the day. So far, 16 Israeli captives and five Thai workers have been released under the agreement in return for hundreds of Palestinian detainees. — Agencies
