RIYADH Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman congratulated new Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.

The King and the Crown Prince have sent cables to Joseph Aoun, congratulating him on his election and taking oath as president of the Lebanese Republic.

In the cables, they expressed their wishes for President Aoun's success and for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Lebanon.

Lebanese Parliament has elected on Thursday the Lebanese Army Chief Gen. Joseph Aoun as president of the country. After he was declared president, Aoun effectively stepped down as army chief, and was sworn in as president after arriving in the parliament.
