MANAMA — Leaders of the Arab League nations adopted the statute of the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers at the summit-level meeting in Bahrain on Thursday.

The Council will work under the umbrella of the University Council and will take Riyadh as its permanent headquarters.

The Council is responsible for several tasks, including drawing up general policies and setting priorities to develop joint Arab action in cybersecurity, enhancing cybersecurity initiatives and programs, and reviewing all cybersecurity topics and developments at the security, economic, developmental, and legislative levels.

The Council was established based on a proposal submitted by Saudi Arabia, and supported by all Arab countries.

Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Cybersecurity Authority Dr. Musaed Al-Aiban pointed out that Saudi Arabia's proposal to establish the Council comes given the increasing cases of cyber threats around the world.

The Council will work to achieve many goals, including developing and strengthening cooperation, coordinating efforts between Arab countries in all aspects related to cybersecurity issues, and exchanging knowledge, experiences and studies.
