NEW YORK —
Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, said on Friday that the Arab Group is calling for a resolution under Chapter VII to ensure Israel complies with a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

In his speech to the United Nations Security Council, Al-Wasil emphasized that the incident in which relief workers from the World Central Kitchen organization were killed is “not surprising from its perpetrator.”

He strongly urged an international investigation into the incident and affirmed that the Arab Group is demanding an inquiry.

The Saudi representative to the Security Council accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.

On Wednesday, the Council of the League of Arab States issued a resolution calling for the Security Council to adopt a decision under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter to compel Israel to cease hostilities in Gaza, cautioning against any Israeli military operation in Rafah, which shelters more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians.

The Council declared in a statement following its meeting at the delegate level in Cairo that “an invasion of Rafah would be considered an assault on the collective Arab national security and would lead to the collapse of peace prospects and an escalation of conflict in the region.”

The World Central Kitchen organization reported on Tuesday that seven of its team members were killed by an Israeli military strike in Deir Al-Balah, central Gaza Strip.

The organization announced the suspension of all its operations in the region and revealed that the seven victims held nationalities of Australia, Poland, and Britain, in addition to an individual with both American and Canadian citizenship and a Palestinian.
