RIYADH — The Saudi Food and Drug Authority's CEO, Dr. Hisham Al-Jadhey, inaugurated the first session of the International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) on Tuesday in Riyadh, joined by experts in food safety from Britain, Australia, Italy, Ireland, and Korea.
Al-Jadhey highlighted the critical role of ISAB in offering scientific advice and recommendations on major food safety issues affecting both locally manufactured and imported foods.
The board reviewed various food safety topics set for discussion from February 13 to 15, 2024, including the scientific assessment of food risks, causes of food poisoning incidents, legislation and risk assessment related to biotechnology in food, feed, and genetically modified foods. Additionally, the meeting focused on food safety through the One Health approach, annual risk-based monitoring plans, and the development of food consumption data.
The session also showcased the significant achievements of the Authority's third strategic plan, outlined the goals and projects of its fourth strategic plan (2023-2027), and reaffirmed its ambition to become a leading international entity in its field. ISAB's membership comprises seven experts, specialists, and officials from various scientific bodies and centers.
