RIYADH — The Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) and Telegram intensified their fight against extremist propaganda, achieving remarkable results in 2023.

In the last quarter of the year, they removed over 20 million pieces of extremist content and banned 801 channels promoting such content.

Their cumulative efforts throughout 2023 resulted in the removal of nearly 44 million pieces of extremist content and the closure of over 6,000 extremist channels.

The Etidal team noted a surge in extremist propaganda activities in the final quarter of 2023, particularly from three terrorist organizations: ISIS, Hay'at Tahrir AlSham, and Al-Qaeda.

In response, they removed 14,064,489 pieces of content and banned 404 channels linked to ISIS.

Actions against Hay’at Tahrir AlSham led to the removal of 3,781,568 pieces of content and the closure of 207 channels.

Efforts against Al-Qaeda resulted in 2,246,490 pieces of content being taken down and 190 channels banned.

Since the inception of their collaboration in February 2022, Etidal and Telegram have collectively removed 58,891,704 pieces of extremist content and banned 13,088 extremist channels.

This collaboration demonstrates significant progress in their ongoing battle against online extremist propaganda.
