JEDDAH — In 2023, Red Sea Global (RSG) marked a significant milestone in the ambitious journey of transforming Saudi Arabia’s tourism landscape.

As a leader in regenerative tourism, RSG welcomed its first guests to The Red Sea destination, a move resonating deeply with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

Flight SV2030

The landing of a special-edition SAUDIA flight at Red Sea International Airport (RSI), carrying a high-level delegation, symbolized a new chapter in Saudi Arabia’s tourism story.

The flight, numbered SV2030, highlighted the project's alignment with the nation's futuristic goals.

John Pagano, CEO of RSG, reflected on this landmark achievement, emphasizing RSG's commitment to pioneering sustainable practices for the benefit of both people and the planet.

With the inauguration of regular flights and the opening of the first resorts, The Red Sea destination is poised to unveil the unique allure of the Saudi Red Sea coast to the world.

Luxurious Resorts and Unique Experiences

The delegation’s visit included a tour of the St. Regis Red Sea Resort, now open for bookings, and an overnight stay at Six Senses Southern Dunes, the first hotel to open in the area.

These resorts exemplify the blend of luxury and sustainability at the core of The Red Sea Project.

The Red Sea destination promises an array of experiences, from watersports and diving to inland adventures, showcasing the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region.

Innovations in Sustainable Travel

RSG's commitment to sustainability is evident in its operations. The new Red Sea International Airport, powered entirely by renewable energy, is a testament to this, with plans to offer Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to further minimize the environmental impact.

The launch of Fly Red Sea, the first seaplane company in the Kingdom, adds another dimension to the travel experience.

The fleet of Cessna Caravan 208 seaplanes, equipped with luxury interiors, will offer scenic tours and transfers to water-based resorts like St. Regis Red Sea Resort and Nujuma, A Ritz Carlton Reserve.

Setting New Standards in Aviation

In a pioneering move, RSG has fueled its seaplanes with SAF from the outset and is exploring fully electric and hydrogen-electric propulsion technologies.

This initiative not only advances sustainable aviation but also opens up new career opportunities for Saudis, including the first Saudi seaplane captain.

Expanding the Aviation Network

RSG has also undertaken the refurbishment of Al Wajh Airport (EJH), aiming to elevate it to international standards.

This modernization effort will enhance connectivity and support key developments in the region, including Amaala, another project developed by RSG.

Building a Sustainable Future

As construction progresses, the destination is shaping up to include 50 resorts across 22 islands and six inland sites, complete with luxury marinas, golf courses, and a range of entertainment and leisure facilities.

Over 25,000 personnel are working diligently to bring this vision to life, with the project set to be fully completed by 2030.

Introducing Shebara and Thuwal Private Retreat

RSG introduced Shebara, its own luxury hotel brand, set to open in 2024 on Sheybarah Island. Additionally, Thuwal Private Retreat — an exclusive island destination, is slated to welcome guests next year, offering an intimate and luxurious experience.

The Red Sea Project is more than a tourism development; it's a bold statement of Saudi Arabia's commitment to regenerative tourism, sustainable development, and economic diversification.

As it progresses, The Red Sea is set to redefine luxury travel and set new benchmarks in sustainable tourism on a global scale.
