Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH Police in the Riyadh Region arrested a Saudi young man, who stole a car while it was undergoing engine maintenance work at an automobile workshop in Dammam. The arrest was made and the car was retrieved after a video of the car being stolen in front of its owner and workers of the workshop went viral on social media. Legal measures were taken against the thief and he was referred to the Public Prosecution.

The video footage from the surveillance camera in the neighborhood showed that the car was undergoing some maintenance work after keeping its engine running in front of the workshop. One of the workers was seen undertaking maintenance work on the engine while the car owner and another citizen looked on.

All of a sudden, a thief sneaked into the car, drove it in reverse and fled with it in the blink of an eye. The car owner tried to catch him but to no avail, as the thief quickly fled the site while the bonnet remained open.

Earlier, Public Security published an infographic showing that there are three steps through which a vehicle theft report can be submitted to the security authorities. This is through the Ministry of Interior’s Absher platform and there is no need to personally contact the police station
