RIYADH — Families of 5 brain-dead people have donated their organs to 8 Saudi patients.

The Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation (SCOT) has successfully received the approval from the families of 5 brain-dead people in several hospitals.

The hospitals are: Security Forces Hospital-Makkah; Al-Zahraa Hospital in Dammam; Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi

Two Saudi patients, aged 46 and 11, who are suffering from heart failure were rescued after SCOT performed two heart transplants on them.

Two liver transplants surgeries were conducted for 2 Saudis, aged 58 and 36, who were suffering from liver failure.

SCOT also implemented lung transplants for 2 citizens, aged 31 and 21, in order to save their lives from pulmonary insufficiency.

Moreover, the lives of a 14-year-old girl and a 45-year-old citizen were saved, after the SCOT conducted two kidney transplants on them to end their suffering.

The director general of SCOT Dr. Talal Al-Goufi has clarified that the process of distributing organs has been done in accordance with the medical ethics, in a way that guarantees fair distribution according to the patients’ medical priorities.

The achieved success comes within the distinguished and joint cooperation between all concerned parties, he said.

Dr. Al-Goufi has expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the families of the brain-dead people, who approved to donate the organs in order to rescue the lives of other patients.
