JEDDAH — Gulf foreign ministers and their counterparts from Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan called for unity in Syria and its return to the Arab fold in a consultative meeting held in Jeddah on Friday upon the invitation of the Saudi foreign minister.

The final statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the need to preserve Syria’s sovereignty by ending the presence of militias, emphasizing that the political solution is the only solution to the Syrian crisis.

The statement also called for an Arab leadership role in resolving the Syrian crisis. The meeting highlighted the importance of combating terrorism and drug trafficking.

The Syrian crisis has been ongoing for more than a decade, with millions of people displaced and thousands of lives lost. The call for unity in Syria and its return to the Arab world is a significant step towards resolving this long-standing crisis.
