Saudi, Iranian foreign ministers agree to meet before end of Ramadan

RIYADH — Saudi and Iranian foreign ministers agreed to to hold bilateral talks during the holy month of Ramadan, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Sunday.

This is the second phone call between the two ministers in one week.

At the outset of their phone conversation, the ministers discussed a number of matters covered by the trilateral agreement signed in China.

Saudi Arabia and Iran announced on March 10 the resumption of diplomatic relations that was severed in 2016.

The agreement, brokered by China, was signed by Saudi Minister of State, Member of the Cabinet and National Security Advisor Musaed Al-Aiban and Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.

The agreement includes a deal to reopen their embassies and missions within two months. It also included an affirmation of respect for the sovereignty of states and the non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
