RIYADH —The Ministry of Culture announced today the launch of the “Font Initiative” through which three unique Saudi fonts were created, each celebrating the Saudi culture. These fonts will be available free of charge to individuals and entities wishing to use them in their design, artistic and creative works.

The fonts can be downloaded via the font platform on https://engage.moc.gov.sa/fonts.

The “Masmak Font” is named after the historical Masmak Fortress, which is characterized by its durability and strong structure, and has clear features, is easy to read, and is distinguished from the rest of the fonts by the fact that its first drawings were developed without reference to traditional calligraphy methods.

A second font, “Al-Naseeb”, resembles handwritten notes, with the letters showing the movement of the hand in writing. It is fit for use in headlines, texts, and literary works, poetry, and children’s stories.

The third, “Watad”, is inspired by the tent peg because its corners are curved in the form of its letters in a way that is similar to tent pegs. This letter is characterized by a dynamic motion, making it fit into texts used for text pertaining to festivals and sports events.

The Ministry of Culture launched this initiative in celebration of the Arabic language, whose position it wishes to enhance. It is introducing a unique touch that gives a Saudi identity to Arabic fonts and celebrates Saudi heritage and cultural symbols. — SPA
