JEDDAH — Saudi Arabia was not affected by the earthquake that struck Turkey on Monday, according to the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS).

The earthquake registered a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale. The epicenter is more than 1,000 kilometers from the Saudi border.

Official Spokesman of the Saudi Geological Survey Tariq Abalkhail said that the earthquake was caused by the active tectonic movement of the Anatolian Fault, in southeastern Turkey.

This fault is a seismically active crack due to the tectonic pressures resulting from the collision of the Arabian plate with the Eurasian plate in the Taurus Mountains region of Turkey. — SPA
