Abbas vows legal measures against Israeli minister’s storming of Al-Aqsa

JERUSALEM — Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday announced his intention to take legal measures in response to the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by members of the Israeli occupation government.

Speaking at a meeting of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s executive committee, Abbas reiterated the rejection by his authority and the free world of the Israeli storming of the holy places in Palestine, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Abbas that Palestinian diplomacy will use all international platforms to prevent the Israeli occupation from executing its plots against Al-Aqsa, SPA said.

He recalled that the UN General Assembly has issued a resolution on this issue and passed it to the International Court of Justice, hoping that the court would accelerate its decision on the issue.

Israeli National far-right Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's entry into Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem "is the beginning of the implementation of the new policy of Benjamin Netanyahu's government that they announced," the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported quoting Abbas.

Meanwhile, in an official statement, the PLO executive committee warned of the dangerous consequences of Ben-Gvir's visit to Al-Aqsa Mosque, calling for a speedy convening of the Arab League's council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation "to confront this serious crime politically."

It also called for immediately establishing practical mechanisms "to curb the aggressive escalation of the occupation government."

On Tuesday, Ben-Gvir enter ed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and wandered in the mosque's courtyards for a short while under strict security protection from Israeli police personnel, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources. — Agencies
