BRASILIA —
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Brazil, to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Brazil’s President Lula da Silva.

The Saudi minister is attending the ceremony on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.

He was received upon his arrival at the airport in Brasília by Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Brazil, Faisal Ghulam, and the Director of the Middle East Directorate at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sydney Leon Romero.

Brazil’s President-elect Lula da Silva will be sworn in Sunday in the capital of Brasilia and assume office for the third time, marking the culmination of a political comeback sure to thrill supporters and enrage opponents in a fiercely polarized nation.

Lula’s presidency is unlikely to be like his previous two mandates, coming after the tightest presidential race in more than three decades in Brazil and resistance to his taking office by some of his opponents, political analysts say.

The leftist defeated far-right President Jair Bolsonaro in the Oct. 30 vote by less than 2 percentage points.
