KSA signs 2nd phase of Protecting Human Trafficking Victims project

RIYADH — Human Rights Commission (HRC) President Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri, who is also the president of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, has signed with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) the second phase agreement of a project to enhance Saudi Arabia’s efforts in protecting human trafficking victims.

This came in a bid to unify Saudi Arabia’s efforts to respond to these crimes through a comprehensive government and societal approach. The agreement includes a joint mechanism to support victims in a way that guarantees their rehabilitation and integration.

Dr. Al-Tuwaijri said that the agreement is part of the Kingdom's efforts to strengthen the fight against human trafficking and boost ways of preventing and protecting victims through national and international cooperation, which is an essential part to combat this crime.

She added that the efforts to combat human trafficking crimes, outlined in the national action plan of the committee, reflect Saudi Arabia’s strong commitment to protecting victims.

For his part, Head of IOM Mission in Bahrain Mohammed Al-Zarqani explained that human trafficking is a globally criminalized offense and requires a comprehensive cooperation approach to combat.

He pointed out that the organization praises the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s efforts in protecting victims of human trafficking.
