DOHA — FIFA published a video on Friday showing Japan's winning goal against Spain during the Group E match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Japan beat Spain 2-1 on Thursday and the assist on the winning goal was made from the edge of the corner line.

There were claims that the ball was already off the field and the goal should not have been allowed.

The international governing body published goal line camera images used by referees in the match to end discussions about the position.

"Japan’s second goal in their 2-1 win over Spain was checked by VAR to determine if the ball had gone out of play," FIFA wrote on Twitter. "The video match officials used the goal line camera images to check if the ball was still partially on the line or not."

The Samurai Blues beat two former world champions, Germany and Spain, in the group to reach the Round of 16 as group leaders with six points. — Agencies
