SHARM EL-SHEIKH — A session was held Friday themed "The Clean Hydrogen Revolution: Is It Time?", within the activities of the Saudi Green Initiative Forum, being held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

During the session, the General Supervisor of the National Program for the Carbon Circular Economy at the Ministry of Energy, Dr. Zaid Al-Gharib, stressed that clean hydrogen is the best way to reach zero neutrality.

He added, it can be applied in the transportation sector, calling for setting unified standards for clean hydrogen, as it will lead to more clarity and attract investments in the Kingdom and around the world to reach zero neutrality.

Dr. Al-Gharib said, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has started producing hydrogen and has announced its ambition in this regard. We do not differentiate between blue and green hydrogen.

“Three agreements were signed today in this regard, and we need to use all available resources and launch local projects to achieve what we want.”

Meanwhile, the participants in the session said that clean hydrogen could meet approximately 12% of energy demand by 2050, which represents a new and promising source used in many sectors that are difficult to see an energy transition. — SPA
