Culture Ministry, ALECSO agree to set up Arab Translation Observatory

October 27, 2022

RIYADH — The Ministry of Culture, represented by the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission, signed Wednesday a memorandum of understanding with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), in coordination with the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

As part of the efforts carried out by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with ALECSO to create a digital bibliographic database and services in the translation industry, this memorandum of understanding aims to introduce the Arab Translation Observatory.

Based on the significance of Saudi Arabia's role in fostering international cooperation, achieving the goals of international organizations, as well as documenting, supporting, and localizing the translation movement in the Arab world, the observatory's launch coincided with an increase in the role of national institutions in supporting the work of international cultural organizations, including ALECSO, over the past period. — SPA
