NEWYORK — Saudi Arabia contributed $10 million to address the danger from the oil tanker “Safer”, which is anchored off the Yemeni coast.

The financial contribution memorandum has been signed by the advisor at the Royal Court and General Supervisor of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah with the Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, David Gressly, in New York City, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The two sides discussed the humanitarian and relief efforts being conducted in Yemen, in addition to reviewing the ways to confront the humanitarian, economic, and environmental threats of the Safer oil tanker, confirming the importance of taking necessary measures to neutralize its potential dangers.

Dr. Al-Rabeeah said that Saudi Arabia’s contribution comes as an extension of its efforts to save the Safer oil tanker.

This is in addition to supporting international efforts to prevent any potential disasters that may result from it, as it contains more than 1 million barrels of oil. Noting that the oil tanker Safar has not been maintained since 2015.

He also stressed the importance of concerted international efforts to prevent any dire consequences from the impounded tanker, noting that the consequences may have repercussions on the whole world, not just on Yemen.

Gressly, meanwhile, has thanked the Kingdom for its efforts and support for everything that achieves stability in Yemen and maintains international peace and security.
