Commercial office run illegally by expats shut in Riyadh

RIYADH The officials of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development have shut down a commercial office, operated illegally by three Arab nationals, in the north of the capital city of Riyadh. It was found that the expatriates involved in a number of residency and labor law violations.

The field teams from the branch of the ministry in the Riyadh region carried out an inspection tour of the commercial office, which was managed by three expatriates who are drivers by profession.

The ministry team detected a number of violations, and these included practicing illegally the activity of marketing and transferring the services of domestic workers and giving them shelter. There were eight domestic workers of different nationalities at the office during the inspection time. Five passports were also seized from the facility.

The ministry officials have collected evidence for the suspected activity of trafficking in persons. The ministry officials have taken legal measures against the establishment and the representative of the establishment was summoned to the ministry office to complete the legal procedures.

The ministry stressed the need for all establishments and employers to abide by the provisions of the Saudi Labor Law. It called on the public to report any violations that they monitor through the ministry’s application available on smart phones or by calling over the unified number 19911.
