KSrelief to carry out campaigns to combat blindness in 8 countries

RIYADH — King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) on Sunday signed an agreement with Al Basar International Foundation to implement several medical campaigns to combat blindness and causing diseases in eight countries.

KSrelief Assistant Supervisor General for Planning and Development Dr. Aqeel Al-Ghamdi and Al Basar International Foundation Secretary-General Adel bin Abdulaziz Al-Rushood signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.

Dr. Al-Ghamdi noted that the agreement stipulates implementing 24 medical projects with the participation of Saudi volunteers and doctors each in Cameron, Niger, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Yemen and Morocco. During the campaigns around 9,600 phacoemulsification procedures and minor surgeries will be performed, in addition to distributing 24,000 eyeglasses and medical drops to some 120,000 beneficiaries.

KSrelief over the past three years has carried out 132 campaigns to combat blindness and blindness-causing diseases in 16 countries, benefiting 421,806 individuals.

These programs are an extension of voluntary works that are organized by KSrelief and are in harmony with its endeavors aimed at instilling the culture of voluntary work for its being a distinctive feature of the social renaissance and to enhance human values and sustainable development, upon directives from the wise leadership to realize the Saudi Vision 2030 in supporting the voluntary work. — SPA
