RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that it has extended the grace period for citizens to obtain licenses for unlicensed weapons and ammunition in their possession.

The ministry said that it has also suspended the regular accountability procedures, as well as the penalties contained in the weapons and ammunition system that include financial fines, imprisonment and banning the violators from obtaining weapons license.

The ministry confirmed that it has extended the grace period for one year, starting from Shawwal 17, 1443 AH.

The ministry has called on citizens to report all unlicensed weapons and ammunition in their possession, in accordance with the Weapons and Ammunition Law issued by Royal Decree No. M/45 dated 25/07/1426H and its executive regulations and instructions issued in this regard.

Citizens are also required to report on weapons that have been given to them by way of inheritance or will and correct their status or hand them over at the nearest police station before the deadline expires on Shawwal 16, 1444 AH.
