RIYADH — The Public Transport Authority (PTA) has stopped importing trucks for transporting goods with an operational life of more than 5 years in implementation of a recent Cabinet decision. The order will come into effect on May 5, 2022.

The authority confirmed that the decision will apply to all heavy transport trucks designed for transporting goods, whose total weight exceeds 3.5 tons and include locomotives, trailers and semi-trailers. The age will be calculated from January 1 of the manufacture year.

PTA indicated that the implementation of the decision will contribute to raising the efficiency and competitiveness of the transport fleet and to achieve the strategic objectives of preserving the environment, reducing carbon emissions and pollution, in addition to reducing the rate of fuel consumption, along with operating and maintenance costs. — SPA
