SFD highlights achievements in water sector around world

DAKAR — A delegation from the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) Wednesday participated in the Ninth World Water Forum, which is held in Dakar,Senegal, between March 21 and 26, to discuss top issues concerned with water and sustainable development with focus on water and climate change.

SFD’s participation in this forum comes in line with the fund’s strategy in supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals through offering support to projects concerned with climate change and clean water to enhance economic growth and provide decent living for people, which were highlighted the SFD’s implementation of several initiatives and programs to develop the water sector in 38 countries around the world.

SFD, through its participation, seeks to enhance its role supporting the water sector and highlight the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s role in realizing the sustainability principle through SFD that carried out several programs in this sector.

One of the main Saudi program is to dig wells and country development in Africa to limit the impacts of drought in 18 African countries, where the program managed to help more than five million people through digging and preparing more than 8,800 water facilities.

SFD is represented by the CEO for the Strategy Sector Dr. Abdullah Al-Sakran and Economic Advisor Eid Bin Saleh Bin Eid.

Dr. Al-Sakran offered a briefing on the fund and its projects and goals to empower water security around the world. He noted that the number of projects financed by the SFD reached 100 schemes with a total value of $ 2.7 billion, accounting for 14.7% of the total loans that SFD offered since its establishment in 1975.

Bin Eid stressed that SFD contributes to realizing SDGs through supporting projects related to climate change and clean water and others to enhance economic growth in a way that realizes decent living for peoples and provide humanitarian requirements. — SPA
