MAKKAH — For the first time this year the Civil Defense will use quad-bikes equipped with fire extinguishers and rescue equipment to respond to fires during peak hours at the holy sites.

The bikes were tested in Ramadan and proved effective in handling fires in crowded places, attending emergencies faster than firefighting squads.

Each bike has a 300-liter water tank and 16 liters of foam.

It can pump water from a distance of 13 meters for 12 minutes continuously. The bikes are supplied with cutting equipment to remove trapped persons inside vehicles and can reach rugged areas that are usually inaccessible to large firefighting teams and rescue equipment.
