Cabinet praises designation of Feb. 22 as Founding Day

RIYADH — The Cabinet, chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman at Al-Yamamah Palace here on Tuesday, lauded the designation of Feb. 22 of each year to mark the commemoration of the founding of the Saudi State under the name "Founding Day".

It noted that it represents great pride in the deep roots of this blessed state and its citizens' firm bonds with its leaders, which began three centuries ago with the reign of Imam Muhammad Bin Saud, and provided unity and security in the Arabian Peninsula following centuries of fragmentation, dissension and instability.

It reiterated that the State in the current era has achieved a comprehensive development for the present and future of a human being, in addition to occupying a global status among nations.

The Cabinet then touched upon Saudi Arabia's keenness to strengthen joint relations and build bridges of communication with all countries of the world.

In this regard, the Cabinet welcomed the outcomes of the visit of the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Thailand to Saudi Arabia, and his talks with the Crown Prince, during which they agreed to restore full diplomatic relations and take steps that would advance bilateral cooperation in various fields.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Acting Minister of Media Dr. Majid Bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi said that the Cabinet reviewed the outcomes of the consultative meeting of Arab Ministers of Foreign Affairs held in Kuwait, which aimed at promoting collective action among member states to achieve common interests and benefits, developing cooperation and coordination mechanisms to consolidate development and prosperity in the region and supporting all means and efforts to lay the foundations for international peace and security.

The Cabinet addressed the communiqué issued by the Quint Committee meeting on Yemen, which included senior representatives of the governments of Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

The Quint condemned the Houthis' repeated attacks against civilians within Yemen, their continued terrorist attacks against Saudi Arabia and more recently the UAE. The Quint affirmed support for the efforts of the United Nations Special Envoy to reach a comprehensive political solution in Yemen.

The Cabinet was briefed on a number of issues on its agenda. It

authorized foreign minister to hold talks with the Slovenian side on amending a general agreement for cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Slovenia.

It authorized the minister of Communications and Information Technology to hold talks with the Singaporean side regarding a draft cooperation memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Communications and Information in Singapore in the fields of digital economy, emerging technologies, and digital governance.

The Cabinet approved the minister of Industry and Mineral Resources to hold talks with the South African side regarding a draft memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources in Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Mineral Resources in South Africa for cooperation in the mineral resources field.

It authorized the minister of Transport and Logistic Services to hold talks with the Omani side regarding a draft cooperation agreement between the government of Saudi Arabia and the government of Oman in the field of marine transport.

It approved a cooperation memorandum between King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) in Saudi Arabia and Archives of Morocco in Morocco.

It authorized the chairman of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property to sign a draft cooperation memorandum in the intellectual property field between the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property in Saudi Arabia and the Federal Service for Intellectual Property in the Russian Federation.

The Cabinet allowed the Ministry of Tourism to control violations on the violation list for municipal violations related to its specializations, and it accredited two final accounts for the Real Estate Development Fund and the General Authority for Military Industries for two previous fiscal years.
