RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Yemen Muhammad Al-Jaber said that there is a great international initiative gaining momentum to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist group.

In an interview with Okaz/Saudi Gazette, he emphasized that the terrorist Houthi group is not only a threat to Yemenis, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf states, but also to the international community.

“Perhaps the Arab decision and the consensus that reached during the meeting in Kuwait was a confirmation of the move to classify Houthis as a terrorist group.

“The coordination with the brothers in the UAE is very high with regard to Yemen, and it plays a very big role in supporting the role of Saudi Arabia and its brothers in Yemen to achieve stability, peace and construction,” he said.

Al-Jaber affirmed that the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman emphasize the importance of Yemen’s growth and development to be in accordance with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) system.

He said Iran has starved its people and destroyed the infrastructure in its territories. The Persian regime is a major saboteur and the malicious plant of the Iranian regime will not grow anywhere as we are the sons of Arabism, he said.

Al-Jaber noted that Saudi Arabia has provided about $7 billion to support Yemen’s economy, in the form of oil derivatives, deposits in the Central Bank of Yemen, and other aspects of support.

He said that the Saudi embassy in Sanaa was untouched when the embassy personnel were inside the embassy at the moment of the coup. The Saudi security forces in charge of diplomats had played a very big role in protecting the embassy and its staff, he added.
