UNICEF: Decision to resume in-person school for primary and pre-primary children consistent with reports

January 15, 2022

RIYADH — The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that the decision to resume in-person school attendance for primary and pre-primary children, as of Jan. 23, is consistent with reports and studies warning of the continued closure of schools, and the disruption of children's learning due to the coronavirus pandemic.

UNICEF also called for giving priority to children's education and interests, with schools remaining open for every child everywhere during 2022, and that schools must be the last places to close and the first to reopen while adhering to public health measures to protect students.

The report stressed the importance of 2022 being the year in which education takes precedence for the benefit of children, and avoid disrupting the learning process, especially since precautionary measures are effective and contribute to keeping schools open and safe. — SPA
