Saudi Arabia signs cooperation agreement with France in peaceful use of outer space

CEO of the Saudi Space Commission Dr. Mohammed Bin Saud Al-Tamimi signed Saturday with CEO of the French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES) Philippe Baptiste, a joint cooperation agreement in the field of the peaceful use of outer space, within the framework of the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Saudi Arabia.

JEDDAH — The CEO of the Saudi Space Commission Dr. Mohammed Bin Saud Al-Tamimi signed Saturday with CEO of the French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES) Philippe Baptiste, a joint cooperation agreement in the field of the peaceful use of outer space, within the framework of the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Saudi Arabia.

The agreement included supporting and strengthening the strategic partnership between the two sides in an effective way to lay the foundations for conducting and implementing cooperative activities between the two sides in the peaceful use of outer space.

The agreement aims to provide a framework for cooperation in space activities in the peaceful uses of space, facilitate the exchange of information and technologies, contribute to capacity building and competencies, organize mutual visits and meetings, hold training courses and specialized workshops.

This is in addition to forging a joint cooperation to develop a mechanism for space-based climate monitoring, and find a ground for joint integration between the public and private sectors in promoting space activities in a way that contributes to creating an attractive environment for investment in the space sector and the growth of its economy.

The cooperation agreement between the Commission and the Center comes within the framework of supporting and strengthening the strategic partnership between the two sides in an effective way, unifying the joint efforts, and raising the level of competition in the space sector in order to enable Saudi Arabia's international space partnerships. — SPA
