AMMAN — Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi has stressed that the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf is a paramount part of Jordan’s security, and said his country rejected any offense against Saudi Arabia and neighboring Gulf states.

During a meeting with his Irish counterpart Simon Coveney, who is currently visiting Jordan, Safadi discussed means to enhance bilateral relations between Jordan and Ireland and the latest regional developments, in addition to updates related to the Palestinian issue and efforts to resume negotiations to realize peace based on a two-state solution.

In a press conference following the meeting, the Jordanian Foreign Minister said: “We in Jordan consider the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf a main part of the security of Jordan; we refuse any attack on this security and we refuse offending brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. We are going on with our work with them and other friends in the international community to achieve progress towards solving the Yemeni crisis, which is hindered by the stance of Houthis that does not accord with all proposals that seek to end the crisis.”

He also voiced his country’s unaltered stance that is based on exerting efforts to end this catastrophe in Yemen, saying approved agreements – such as the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216, outcomes of the national dialogue, and the Riyadh Agreement – are all bases that allow achieving progress towards solving the crisis in Yemen. — SPA
