RIYADH — Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Algeria Aimene Benabderrahmane drew attention, in a key speech at the Middle East Green Initiative Summit, inaugurated Monday in Riyadh by Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, to the situations that the whole world is going through, as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic.

“It has doubled the challenges for our governments and peoples, necessitating everyone to join hands to find practical solutions to confront these challenges and dangers that threaten the planet,” he said.

He attributed the reasons for the imbalance in the environment to the non-optimal and irrational exploitation of natural resources, as a result of an unequal economic race, which produced imbalances all over the world with dire repercussions on the climate, which will lead in the short and long term to major problems that threaten human life as well as the economies of countries.

He pointed out that the whole world is thankful and praising the initiative of Saudi Arabia and its qualitative endeavors aimed at creating a common environmental vision to unify efforts to protect the environment and combat climate change in the Middle East and the world.

He stressed that his country fully believes in the importance of protecting the environment and achieving sustainability for it, so it is fully ready to support the Middle East Green Initiative and every similar initiative that would research and find solutions to the problem of the climate change and combating desertification, drought and forest fires. — SPA
