Arab League, GCC sign a MoU to boost cooperation

October 10, 2021

CAIRO — The Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf signed Sunday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two sides.

The MoU would provide maximum support for Arab interests, namely the Palestinian cause, and coordinate stances with regards to all international and regional matters.

Following the signing ceremony, Aboul Gheit said, in a statement, that the two sides agreed to form a joint committee at the level of assistant secretaries to ensure the implementation of the objectives of the MoU, assigning points of contact and conducting a periodic assessment of the cooperation process.

He added that the memorandum aims at more interdependence between the Arab League and the GCC.

Gheit strongly condemned the Houthi militia's targeting of King Abdullah Airport in Jazan on Saturday with bomb-laden drones.

Aboul Gheit described, in a statement Sunday, these criminal attacks directed against civilian targets as war crimes and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, a behavior requiring accountability.

He added that the Houthis have so far rejected all initiatives for a comprehensive solution. Moreover, they are implementing an Iranian agenda aimed at prolonging the conflict, he concluded. — SPA
