RABAT — Morocco's National Rally of Independents (RNI) chief Aziz Akhannouch was named prime minister by King Mohammed VI on Friday after his party won a majority in legislative elections held a day prior.

King Mohammed VI received the newly-voted prime minister at his Dar Al-Makhzen royal palace in Fez, tasking him with the formation of a new government, read a statement by the palace.

Akhannouch's party clinched 102 seats in the 395-seat House of Representatives, one of two chambers of the bicameral legislature.

The Authenticity and Modernity Party came second with 86 seats, with the Istiqlal Party trailing in third with 81 seats. — KUNA
