Arabic calligraphy event to celebrate Arab identity

RIYADH — The Ministry of Culture, in partnership with partnering with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Development, is organizing a calligraphy event under the umbrella of “Year of Arabic calligraphy”.

The event, which began last Thursday (Aug. 5, 2021), will continue in 10 regions until January 2022.

Artists from each city from different regions will draw Arabic calligraphy murals, paint their sections until the mural is completed and also participate in graffiti art.

Visitors from different regions will also be able to be a part of the event and add to the mural by contributing their paintings, drawings and calligraphy art.

The event will move through 10 regions, starting with the city of Abha, moving to Sakaka in the Al-Jouf region, followed by Tabuk and Al-Qassim.

After closing its first phase in Abha, the event will travel through Asir and start its second phase in September in Al-Baha.

In its second phase, it will move to Hail, Madinah, Al-Ahsa. The event will be finishing its second phase in the Jazan region.

The initiative is a part of The Quality of Life Program, which aims to achieve Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and celebrate Arabic calligraphy and enhance its presence today.

The motive behind the initiative stems from the ministry’s keenness on creating activities in support of the “Year of Arabic calligraphy” program.

This event serves as a symbol of Arab identity, a source of inspiration and an essential element of history of Arab civilization.
