JEDDAH — The United Kingdom and the United States are united in their condemnation of Iran’s attack on MV Mercer Street off the coast of Oman last week, said British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab in a tweet on Wednesday.

The UK foreign secretary tweeted following his talks over the phone with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“I spoke to @SecBlinken about the situation & need for Iran to stop its destabilizing behavior. We continue to work together to protect international peace & security,” his tweet read.

Later in the day, Blinken said in a statement that he discussed with Raab “ongoing efforts to forge a coordinated response to Iran’s attack on the Mercer Street, a commercial ship that was peacefully transiting international waters in the north Arabian Sea.”

The US secretary of state offered his condolences for the loss of a UK citizen who, along with the Romanian captain, was killed in the attack, during the call.

Meanwhile, Iran has denied any involvement in the attack on a Liberian-flagged, Japanese-owned oil tanker managed by Israeli-owned Zodiac Maritime. Two crew members, a Briton and a Romanian, were killed.
