COVID-19 active cases fall below 11,000 as new infections drop, recoveries surge

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Monday recorded 1,063 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths due to complications caused by the virus over the past 24 hours as the health ministry continues to expand its vaccination campaign in the Kingdom.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 527,877 and the virus-related fatalities to 8,259. According to the ministry, a total of 1,620 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 508,994.

The Makkah region reported the highest number of new cases with 244, followed by the Riyadh region with 217, the Eastern region with 152, and the Asir region with 108 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with one of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 10,624 active cases and 1,434 of them were in critical condition.
