Al-Awwad highlights Saudi efforts in promoting human rights in meeting with top US official

HRC chief also meets with EU ambassador to Saudi Arabia

RIYADH — President of the Human Rights Commission Awwad Al-Awwad met with US Embassy's Chargé d'Affaires Martina Strong in his office here on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed Saudi Arabia’s recent progress to the “Tier 2” in its annual Trafficking in Persons Report released by the US Department of State early this month, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Al-Awwad also highlighted the Kingdom's efforts, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman in protecting and promoting human rights, spelling out the recent reforms measures taken by the Kingdom in this filed.

Later in the day, the HRC chief also held a separate meeting with Ambassador of the European Union to Saudi Arabia Patrick Simonnet.

During the meeting, they discussed areas of cooperation with human rights between the two sides and ways to develop them.

Al-Awwad briefed the EU ambassador about the efforts of the Saudi government and its keenness to protect and promote human rights and the key reforms carried by the Kingdom in line with the Vision 2030.
