BRASILIA — Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro was taken to a military hospital for medical exams early on Wednesday., according to local media.

Bolsonaro is in good spirits and doing well, the presidency’s press office said in a statement.

"He will remain under medical observation for a period of 24 to 48 hours to investigate the cause of persistent hiccups, though not necessarily in the hospital," the statement added.

Local media outlet Globo reported that Bolsonaro had been admitted for unspecified medical testing after feeling abdominal pains during the early hours of Wednesday.

The Brazilian president underwent multiple surgeries in 2018 after being stabbed in the gut on the campaign trail. — Agencies
