CAIRO — All COVID-19 vaccines approved by the World Health Organization are effective against the Delta variant, said Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, WHO regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean, on Wednesday.

He added that the Delta variant is reported to have been found in 13 countries in the Eastern Mediterranean region, it is posing a global risk.

Dr. Al-Mandhari made the remarks during a virtual press conference to discuss the latest developments with regard to the coronavirus pandemic, new variants, and vaccination and health guidelines to be followed during the celebration of Eid Al-Adha.

He attributed the main reason for people’s reluctance to get the jab to the false information about vaccines, adding that agreements have been signed with social media platforms to check the misinformation.

Dr. Al-Mandhari called for the adherence to guidelines issued by the organization during the Hajj season and made as a number of suggestions for individuals to observe in gatherings.
