RIYADH — Saudi Arabia makes history by sending the largest ever delegation of participants in the history of Olympic Games. A total of 10 athletes will represent the Kingdom in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, scheduled to be held from July 23 to Aug. 8.

Minister of Sports Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal celebrated this historic occasion with a statement on his Twitter account: “With the blessing of God, and with the unlimited support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, and the keenness and follow-up of Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, the largest ever mission of Saudi Arabia in the history of Olympics will be available for Tokyo Olympics 2020.”

The Ministry of Sports and the Saudi Olympic Committee officially announced the names of 10 athletes participating in the Olympics. They are Youssef Bouarish (swimming), Ali Al-Khadrawi (table tennis), Ali Hussein Reza (rowing), Tariq Hamdi (karate), Saeed Al-Mutairi (shooting), Suleiman Hammad (Judo), Mahmoud Al-Ahmeed (weightlifting), Siraj Al-Saleem (weightlifting), Yasmine Al-Dabbagh (100 meters race), and Mazen Al-Yassin (400 meters race).

This is in addition to the Saudi Olympic football team, led by its three stars —Salman Al-Faraj, Salem Al-Dosary and Yasser Al-Shahrani, and national coach Saad Al-Shehri.

Saudi Arabia participated for the first time in the Olympic Games in Munich, Germany in 1972. The Saudi team will participate in nine games — football, karate, weightlifting, archery, rowing, swimming, athletics, judo, and table tennis.
