RIYADH — Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Bin Abdullah and his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son signed on Monday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with regard to enhancing political consultations, during their meeting via videoconference.

The MoU aimed to further strengthen the existing cooperation and friendship between the two friendly countries and peoples, and boost the development of relations and joint coordination at all levels, especially in bilateral relations and international issues of common interest.

Speaking on the occasion, Prince Faisal affirmed the keenness of the two countries to exert more efforts to strengthen and bolster bilateral relations in all fields, and at all levels so as to reach these relations to broader horizons and to serve the aspirations of the governments and peoples of the two countries.

“This MoU confirms the importance of exchanging views and discussing proposals related to common issues, in a way that enhances bilateral relations,” he said.

The foreign minister emphasized that ever since the establishment of bilateral relations with Vietnam in 1999, the Kingdom was and is still keen to strengthen and cement these relations by concluding more agreements, MoUs and cooperation programs, sharing views on political developments on the regional and international arenas, and exchanging visits by officials of the two countries.

Prince Faisal congratulated Vietnam for winning non-permanent membership of the Security Council for the second time during 2020-2021, and its nomination for the presidency of the Security Council in April this year.

He wished Vietnam would win membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period of 2023-2025 while offering the Kingdom’s support in this regard. The minister expressed confidence over Vietnam’s role in contributing to joint international efforts in the promotion of human rights.

Prince Faisal noted that the Saudi Vision 2030 comes in the context of the great efforts made by the Kingdom’s government aimed at strengthening and enhancing the investment and economic environment of the Kingdom, as well as that of the region and the world.

He called on all governmental and private commercial, investment and economic sectors in Vietnam to contribute to achieving this ambitious vision. He looked forward to Vietnam facilitating appropriate investment environment for Saudi investors in a way that enhances the commercial and economic relations between the two countries.
